SDG City Hunter

Description

Augmented reality(AR) is a specific type of virtual reality. With this technology, games are much more lifelike. Up to now, there are already a number of PC and mobile games that make use of AR. Recently, an AR game “Pokemon Go” have completely made a big hit.

At the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit on 25 September 2015, world leaders adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which includes a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its associated 169 targets to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change by 2030.

Our objective is to build an educational social app about SDGs, which enables all the public to get involved in world sustainable development.

First, we will make an application description which specifies every situation in real life of each SDG and introduces the main SDG each organization is working on. For example, we define that a beggar belongs to SDG1 No Poverty; WHO is working on SDG3 Good health and well-being.

As a client encounters a situation which is a SDG problem, he can take a photo of it and match it with a SDG which he thinks it belongs to. If the match is correct, augmented reality (AR) mode will use gyroscope on the player’s mobile device to display an image of the corresponding SDG monster as though it were in the real world. Then, the player could call for help from related organizations and then tweet it. If the client correctly finds a SDG problem and its related organizations, he will gain positive points, or negative points.

This app can be promoted from school students who are eager to be an activist to make their own voices heard. It can educate public the basic knowledge of SDGs and international organizations. Moreover, it uses crowdsourcing to map SDG problems in the city and takes advantage of the influence of public opinions on twitter to urge corresponding organizations to actually solve these problems.
